Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
Well blockbusters are certainly back in the cinemas. For the past week it has felt that there are no other films in the cinema as the two titans Godzilla and Kong have dominated cinema box office takings as they face off in Godzilla vs Kong.
Godzilla vs. Kong hits Phuket screens
Phuket Life

There is perhaps no bigger way to announce that blockbusters are back in post-COVID cinemas than to let two titans like Godzilla and King Kong go head-to-head. The Godzilla/Kong franchise has bubbled along nicely for Warner Bros over the past seven years and now it roars back to life as the two titans come to some pretty impressive blows in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Moving ‘Minari’ finds recognition in America
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
Well, the Academy Awards recognition of Asian cinema looks like it might finally be set in stone. Many predicted that Korean film Parasite’s big win at last year’s Oscars was the recognition that finally the Academy was willing to accept films from Asia in the high regard that they already did films from America and Europe.
Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley find themselves ‘Chaos Walking’
Phuket Life

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley! When it comes to pop culture film stars you couldn’t get two bigger. She is the face and main star of the latest batch of Star Wars adventures and he… well, he is Spider-Man. The fact that the pair of them have joined forces in a film that very few people know about despite the fact it is in cinemas now is deeply astounding.
Disney is back: ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ reigns supreme
Phuket Life

World Entertainment
It is hard to believe that it has been 12 months since Disney released a brand-new film straight to cinemas… yes, even ‘House of Mouse‘ was not immune from the great COVID cinema lockdown worldwide. The big news is that Disney returns to cinemas this week with a film that is arguably one of their greatest pieces of animated brilliance: Raya and the Last Dragon.
Grillo takes the gloves off in all-action ‘Boss Level’

Frank Grillo! Remember the name because you are going to be hearing it quite a lot over the next decade or so.
Malcom & Marie adds to Netflix’s Oscar-worthy accolades
Phuket Life

It is no stretch of the truth to say that nobody in the film industry really saw streaming as a ‘serious film-going experience’ until Netflix delivered The Irishman. Suddenly streaming wasn’t just a way to watch B-Grade horror and fantasy films that most cinemas wouldn’t screen, it now had esteemed award-winning directors making what many would describe as Oscar-bait films.
Unlikely fun gunning ‘Shadow in the Cloud’
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
One of the surprise winners during this period of zero blockbuster output from Hollywood has been smaller films from around the world suddenly doing very well at the box office. This has been a huge win for Asian, Australian and European cinema as a whole and now New Zealand has decided that it wants its piece of the pie with the release of ‘Shadow In the Cloud’ in Phuket.
Hanks hits the mark in ‘News of the World’
Phuket Life

World Entertainment
With Thai cinemas currently screening a lot of re-releases chances are the more serious film lover may have already seen most of the films gracing the big screen. Thankfully though streaming services are continuing their steady release of new material – and this time it is the brilliant new Tom Hanks film ’News Of The World’ that has just surfaced.
‘Ideal Home’ an acquired taste

Comedy is such a personal thing. If you ask someone about their favourite comedic actors something soon becomes very clear – people either love or hate the likes of Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler. There is no middle ground for the two – nobody ever says “I kind of like Adam Sandler.” it is either “I hate that man” or “That man is a comedic genius.”
Life makes the ‘Happiest Season’
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
Yes, it is almost February but the Christmas movies just keep coming this year. Now it is time for Happiest Season to be released in Phuket and one thing about this film I should tell you straight away is that this film is not going to be ‘just another Christmas movie’ – and that is the fact that it stars Kristen Stewart.

George Clooney… Is there anything that this man cannot do? Aside from being one of the world’s most handsome men (yes, apparently there actually is an award for that) and an Oscar-winning actor, Clooney is also a seasoned film director. Unlike many of the films that Clooney has acted in over the years as a director, he seems to steer clear of big blockbusters and instead focus on films that appeal more to the serious cinephile.
Tony Jaa joins the fray in Monster Hunter
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
While a film is often judged by the way that it is received during the Awards season there are times when the best feeling in the world is to sit down and watch a film that is never going to be even mentioned during the illustrious awards period. Yes, it is great to sit down and watch a film that challenges you or makes you think, but at other times all you really want to do is sit down, turn your brain off and watch something dumb yet enjoyable. That is where films like Monster Hunter come into the picture.
Bob the Cat is back!

Yes the tinsel and trees might already be up but to a lot of people it never really feels like Christmas until the Christmas movies start playing on television and in the cinemas. Perhaps it is the old classics like the spectacular It’s A Wonderful Life or the newer gems like Dudley Moore’s Santa Clause: The Movie that puts you in the Christmas spirit, whatever the case there is always something about a Christmas movie that make you overlook the cheesiness and overzealous holiday cheer and let’s you just sit back and relax.
A year for the ‘Wonder Woman’
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
Well at last 2020 has its own superhero – and her name is Wonder Woman. Over the last decade comic book fans have become used to having at least three or four superhero movies hitting cinemas each year. This year though with the blockbusters on hold those fans have had slim pickings. The underrated New Mutants came and went in the blink of an eye so the fans have just had to sit back and wait patiently for DC to launch their follow-up to 2017’s brilliant Wonder Woman. Now the wait is over and the result may surprise a few people.
The Croods make a comeback
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
The Croods! Easily the best family to come out of prehistoric times since The Flintstones and they are back in the new animated family film The Croods: A New Age. It is hard to believe that it has been seven years since the first film in the franchise was released – but then as a film itself The Croods did some pretty unbelievable things in its time.
Ghosts Of War, a deft mix of war, horror
Phuket Life
/
World Entertainment
One of the hardest challenges that a director can take on is the decision to make a film that mixes genres together. Occasionally these films do work remarkably well but sadly for every film like Scary Movie there are a hundred of others so bad that they never even make it into cinemas. With that in mind there is a little wonder why so many people are a little sceptical about Ghosts Of War –a film that proudly mixes together the war and horror genres.
Vince Vaughan does ‘Freaky’ in style

If you’ve dug deep into some of the movie-themed accounts on YouTube then you’ve probably come across a few movie mash-ups during your time. Normally they are short videos put together by obsessed movie fans that have cut scenes or pieces of dialogue together from a number of movies to create a short film. Now a kind of cinematic movie mash-up is about to find its way onto the big screen.
Holding true to ‘The Craft: Legacy’

Horror film fans are some of the most unforgiving cinephiles there are. They are never afraid to tell a filmmaker what is ‘wrong’ with a film and if someone dares make massive changes to a horror franchise, then you better believe that everybody on social media is going to hear about. While many filmmakers have come unstuck through the passion of the genre’s fans one group has managed to avoid any of that fury over the past few years – Blumhouse Studios.
Divisive ‘Force of Nature’ struggles through
Phuket Life

Mel Gibson! Even a mention of his name is enough to divide cinema lovers around the world. You have some people who have blacklisted him – they don’t want to watch anything he is involved with because in their eyes he committed an unforgivable sin. Then on the flipside you have some film fans who have come to the conclusion that Gibson, as both an actor and a director, has created some of his best work after being ‘unofficially’ made untouchable in Hollywood.
