Cape Panwa, Phuket Property

Situated on the southeast coast of Phuket, Cape Panwa forms the northern end of Chalong Bay. Although the cape gives residents the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, the northern road has easy access to Phuket Town, whilst the road that heads west is easy driving distance to Chalong. As well as having some nice local restaurants, it has been the home for many years of a number of 5 star luxury hotels. One of the main attractions of this area for residents are the beautiful views overlooking the islands south and east coasts.

There are not a huge amount of new Phuket condo projects in this part of the island, as most developers focus more on the west coast which attracts more holiday makers. But for those that are looking for remoteness and like this area, there are a few choices.

Villas are harder to find in Cape Panwa, but if you love peace and quiet and are looking to buy a luxury villa in Phuket with stunning sea views with private pool, then it is worth taking a look at the options available.

Investing in Panwa

Because of its isolation, the Cape Panwa area tends to attract more residents than those searching for a perfect Phuket investment.  Even after some development this area is still fairly quiet compared to others, but that doesn’t mean that the area doesn’t hold some investment potential.

Some of the views in this area are simply magnificent and what the location lacks in amenities it makes up for in the beautiful landscape, lush tropical greenery and its peace and solitude. And as land values rise across the island, and more 5 star hotels discover this area, they will undoubtedly lift prices here too.

Situated on the south eastern side of Phuket, the extremely laid back Cape Panwa, mostly covered with lush tropical forests, has some amazing scenery and some nice secluded bays.

It has for many years been the home of a few 4 and 5 star prestigious hotels, but there has also been a small amount of development recently for those enjoying residential living with a little remoteness, peace and solitude.

Cape Panwa juts out to form a part of Chalong Bay to the south, and Makham Bay to the north. Although the cape has that feeling of being miles from anywhere, it is far from civilization, with an easy drive to both Chalong and Phuket Town. That means there are a multitude of shopping options and plenty of restaurants and bars close at hand. So for anyone seeking a place to stay or reside away from the crowds, but doesn’t want to be in the back of beyond, Cape Panwa may be ideal.

The beaches may not offer crystal clear turquoise waters, but the beaches have other attractions. Panwa Beach, for example, still draws visitors because it is so idyllic and because its south west direction does get some spectacular sunsets. Ao Yon Beach is also a great place to relax, and is a beautiful sight with the yachts moored out in the bay.

You’d expect the isolation of Cape Panwa would mean the choice of restaurants and bars would be limited, but there are surprisingly quite a few options. The choices for restaurants are not limited to Thai seafood either, as there are a few international restaurants dotted around serving some excellent cuisine.

Ao Yon has some pretty good bars, cafes and restaurants in the bay, which are perfect for an afternoon stop off if you are out exploring the island. The Ship Inn, for example, is on the beach and is a great place for a cool beer or something to eat. It also has the Brasserie Yacht Club, which is renowned for its excellent cuisine at both lunchtimes and in the evening.

Not far from the Royal Thai Naval Base on the road to the Cape Panwa Hotel, there is also a fantastic Indian restaurant, which gets quite busy in the peak seasons.

But Cape Panwa is also famous for one of Phuket’s best beach clubs experiences. Although not on the beach, The Baba Pool Club and the Baba Nest, are located on the Sri Panwa luxury resort. Both are unique experiences and well worth a visit, especially at sunset when the sun dipping over the horizon lights up the sky, a beautiful scene while you sink into one of the big comfy chairs with a cocktail in hand.

Cape Panwa is also home to Phuket’s original aquarium. The Phuket Aquarium and the Marine Biological Research Centre are located is on the very end of the road, so you can’t miss it. Ever popular, it is amazing value for money and well worth spending an hour or two with the children, discovering the tropical fish in Thailand’s seas and visiting the rear of the aquarium to see the turtle sanctuary and conservation area.

The area also has its own waterfall, the Ao Yon Waterfall. It is relatively small compared to some of the others on the island, and dries up a little in the high season, but it does have some catchment areas that are ideal for splashing around in. It is also less crowded than many of the other waterfalls in Phuket.

On the road to Chalong that winds around the bay, you can turn off and head up the mountainside to the peak where you’ll find the Khao Khad viewpoint perched on the top.  From Khao Kad you’ll get magnificent views across Chalong Bay and further south to Rawai, as well as Koh Lon which is the large island that sits just off the bay.
