The three foreigners arrested were Chinese nationals, named as Mr Sun Hongyu, 34; Mrs Ye Jingwen, 29; and Mrs Chu Weizen, 55, Phuket Immigration reported today (Sept 20).
The three were arrested in Soi Mai Khao 6, Mai Khao.
The relationships of the three to each other were not explained. In one of the photos one of the women is seen holding a baby along with her passport.
The three were found to have stayed illegally in the country for more than 168 days, Phuket Immigration noted.
All three were taken to Tha Chatchai Police Station and charged with breach of Section 81 of the Immigration Act.
Phuket Immigration last week urged the public to report any wrongdoings by foreigners in Phuket, including overstays, criminal activities, including involvement with drugs or weapons, or working illegally.
To make reporting more convenient, Phuket Immigration noted that people could submit tip-offs through the ‘citizen empowerment’ app Traffy Fondue (See the English-language form here).
Alternatively poeple can call the hotline 096-0365485, or submit a tip-off through a newly launched Google Form now made available (click here to see form).
Since the, an Algerian man has been arrested for 193 days overstay, with the arrest credited to a tip-off from the public.
Last Sunday, apparently without the assistance from the public, a woman whose name and nationality were not disclosed was arrested at the International Departures Hall at Phuket airport for 1,577 days overstay.
