The Algerian national, named by Phuket Immigration as Belabbas Abdelkader, 29, was placed under arrest in front of the 7-Eleven store on Chao Fa East Rd directly opposite Chalong Police Station, Phuket Immigration reported today (Sept 13).

Phuket Immigration received a tip-off about Mr Abdelkader yesterday, with officers Phuket Immigration officers led by Pol Lt Sonthaya Chanthamunee, Pol Lt Teeraphon Nitichat, Pol Lt Ekarat Chatwithaya making their way to the location specified, and finding Mr Abdelkader as indicated.

Mr Abdelkader was confirmed to have stayed in the country for 193 days after his permit to stay had expired (overstay), so they jointly arrested him, Phuket Immigration reported.

The officers then marched Mr Abdelkader across the road and into Chalong Police Station, where he was charged under Section 81 of the Immigration Act.

As a foreigner found caught overstaying in the country, Mr Abdelkader under the ‘Good guys in, bad guys out’ policy now faces a fine of B500 a day (up to a maximum of B20,000) before being blacklisted from re-entering the country for a period of five years, starting from his departure date.

“If there are #clients of foreigners committing wrongdoing You can inform us directly via the channels below,” Phuket Immigration said in their announcement.
