Officials question bus driver Tanapon Prakobmit, 32, of Nakhon Ratchasima (in light green T-shirt), at the scene of the accident.

Pol Maj Suttipong Rodsong of Kok Kloi Police told The Phuket News today, “A device used for smoking crystal meth (ya ice) was found in the bus. No one on the bus admitted to owning the device so officers conducted urine tests of all those on board.

“All results came back negative except for that of the bus driver, whose test came back positive,” he said.

“The driver, Mr Tanapon Prakobmit, 32, of Nakhon Ratchasima, has again denied the device belonged to him and has told us he was not on meth. Further testing will have to be carried out to determine whether the device did in fact belong to him,” he added.

The crash on Sunday left 18 students injured when the bus flipped and rolled off the road in the Kok Kloi sub district of Phang Nga.

Tanapon was arrested on the spot and charged with reckless driving causing injury. (See story here)
