In comments made earlier last week, Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkanapilas explained that an enhanced water production system was now being employed to ensure the quality of tap water made available to residents and tourists alike meets the requisite standards.
The system would also lend support to ensure that the required amount of water used during the upcoming tourist season is sufficent, Mr Saroj added.
The Mayor further explained that representatives from the Phuket City Municipality Waterworks Division had discussed the challenges regarding the management of raw untreated water and the situation of water stored in Bang Wad Dam during the rainy season with Krirksak Leenanon, Director of the Phuket Irrigation Project.
Currently, Bang Wad Dam reservoir has a water stored at 97.1% of its capacity and it is expected that the reservoir will be full in November, Mr Krirksak confirmed.
Mr Saroj said that the Phuket City Municipality Waterworks Division has been conducting ongoing work to improve standards, such as changing water filters to extract sand and sediment and maintaining the high-voltage power supply system in front of the waterworks plant to increase the efficiency of water provision to the public.
