A lifeguard from Nai Yang Beach found Mr Rochsha’s body and alerted Sakhu Police at around 7.50am. It was reported that the corpse had been washed ashore "in front of Sakhu Police Station, about 1 km from where the man disappeared."
Mr Rochsha’s body was then taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy. According to Sakhu Police, there were no visible marks indicating a struggle or any violent death.
The man is believed to have drowned when he went swimming in the sea amid adverse weather on Friday (Sept 1) evening. The man was on the beach with a group of friends, all of whom were safe.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) Southwestern Meteorological Center (Phuket Met) reissued its weather advisory for Phuket and five other provinces located on the Andaman coast of Thailand today (Sept 3).
Wind waves in the upper part of the Andaman Sea are forecast to reach two to three meters tall, and over three meters tall in thundershower areas, according to the warning signed by Phuket Met Director Weera Samalee.
"People should be aware of severe conditions," warning No. 8 (63/2023) states clearly.
Mr Rochsha was initially reported by Phuket Tourist Police as a "missing Russian" meaning him being a Russian-speaking foreigner. Officials then clarified that the man was a national of Kazakhstan.
Thai and English media now call the man "Kazakh" or "Kazak". The Phuket News has a copy of Mr Rochsha’s passport but without the page where his ethnicity is specified.
