Henry James Kaye
Tuesday 10 March 2020, 12:48PM
Henry James Kaye, 83 years of age, passed away peacefully on the 7th of March 2020 in Phuket, Thailand. A larger than life, spectacular and one-of-a-kind character, Henry lived life to the fullest. A hero during the Malayan Emergency, a tea-trader in Sri Lanka, a watch salesman in Switzerland and an entrepreneur in Hong Kong and Thailand, Henry was one of the world’s true adventurers and raconteurs. A legendary member of the sailing community, Henry won titles across the globe, captained the Hong Kong Olympic Yachting Team in 1968, promoted yacht racing across Asia and was a stalwart member of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. He sailed his last race at 81 years old, and even then had no intention of stopping. We will remember Henry as one of life’s originals. Always the first to help those less fortunate, he was a pillar of forthright honesty, selflessness and good (at times outrageous) humour. He is a true friend and inspiration to countless people around the world. An exceptional and much-loved father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle, Henry is survived by his three children Stella Whiffin, Martin Kaye and Anna Kaye, his ex-wives Janet Kaye and Maria Kaye, son-in-law Sam Whiffin, his grandchildren Natasha, Samantha, Francesca and Max Whiffin, his sister Carole Seigne and his nephews and niece John, Michael, Patrick, Timothy and Jane Seigne. Henry has left an enormous void in our lives, and will never be forgotten. In his memory, we vow to live life as Henry would - with a spring in our steps and a twinkle in our eyes.
