Monty Python meets Alfred Hitchcock: Don’t miss The 39 Steps at Underwood Art Factory on June 1 and 2
Welcome back to The Play’s the Thing! I hope you are enjoying reading these as much as I am enjoying writing them.
Theatrical collaboration an example for our polarised world
“There is probably no more varied a motley crew than those who people a theatre production. We could hardly be less similar except for our love of this art, so we learn to get past all those differences and down to what binds us.” – Robert Barton from Acting Onstage and Off.
Vox Pop: Members of Theatrix speak out
This month I want to share with you what local members of Theatrix have to say about learning and practising acting. Now, none of these people are professionals with a career in acting, and they all come from very different backgrounds.
To act, or not to act? The benefits of theatre as a passion, not a career
Here we are again, celebrating the wonder of theatre arts.
Theatre at a moment’s notice: The power of ‘Yes, and…’
Some of you will see ‘yes, and...’ and know immediately what I’ll be talking about in this month’s article. For those of you who are as yet uninitiated, I am referring to the foundation stones of one of my favourite forms of theatre: improv. Improv is short for ‘improvisational theatre’, theatre that is unscripted and made up on the spot. One of the most exciting things about improv is that no two shows are alike.
Live Onstage! Festive shows by Phuket’s young talent
’Tis the season to be jolly! And to see theatre, because what could be more jolly? By the time this comes out, the performances mentioned will have been laid to rest, but I hope reading about them will spur you to make sure you get to see the shows next time around, and I’m sure you won’t have to wait a whole year.
Live Theatre - The ever-changing performance
Welcome to The Play’s The Thing, Take 2. I would be overjoyed if, after reading these articles, you decide you are persuaded to go see live theatre whenever you can and take your kids to age-appropriate live theatre whenever possible. You won’t be sorry. We don’t have a lot of opportunities on the island to see theatre, so let’s grab the live performances we do have.
A theatrical vision for live performance in Phuket
I was invited to write this column to sound off on things dramatic and theatrical. I can think of thousands of things I’d love to say, but where to start?
