Somjai Rakseri was detained at the Eagle Track Zipline theme park in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park in Mae Rim district. Somjai, a 41-year-old Mae Rim native, was charged with operating the park without a permit and the operation was closed down.

He had applied for and not yet received permission for the business from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, but still built the park.

The theme park allegedly violates laws relating to forests, forest reserves and national parks as its structures affect the conditions of the national park and a catchment area.

A Chinese tourist reportedly fell to her death at a different zip-line adventure ride, the Flying Squirrel, in Mae Rim district on Oct 11.
