The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre Region 3 (Thai-MECC 3) reported that at 12:03pm it received an emergency call that the yacht ‘Cognac’ was suffering water ingress, causing the stern of the vessel to sink.
The incident occurred about one nautical mile from Wisit Panwa Pier, off Phuket’s southeast coast.
Thai-MECC Region 3 ordered the Phuket Port Security Control Centre to immediately deploy patrol vessel NMCC 4012 to assist.
Officials said NMCC 4012 reached the scene and found the yacht partially submerged at the stern while moored in the middle of a navigation channel.
The patrol vessel towed ‘Cognac’ to shallower waters to prevent it from fully sinking and to reduce the risk to passing vessels.
The vessel ‘Andaman Pearl 5’ also assisted in rescuing the three crew members on board.
All three people were brought to safety and no injuries or fatalities were reported, Thai-MECC 3 confirmed.
The yacht’s owner is arranging a salvage operation to recover the vessel, with a barge equipped with a crane standing by at Koh Lohn to support the recovery effort.
Thai-MECC Region 3 reminded boat operators and the public that maritime emergencies can be reported by calling the 1465 maritime emergency hotline.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure there is no navigation hazard or marine pollution caused by the incident.
