Ya bah, ya ice, and kratom seized in Phuket drug arrests

PHUKET: Border Patrol Police arrested two women and a man in three separate operations this week and seized from them various amounts of methamphetamine pills (ya bah), crystal meth (ya ice) and kratom.

The arrests were made made a team of Border Patrol Police Company 425 led by Maj Kongpop Posane, Capt Ampon Samorthai and Capt Teerasak Narasri on Sunday, Monday and yesterday.

At 3:30pm on Sunday (Mar 11), Wantanee ‘Nong’ Hansamut, 42, from Phuket was arrested at a house in Phuket Villa Suanluang on Chao Fa – Dawroong Rd in Wichit when she was found in possession of 5,043 ya bah pills and 666.40 grams of ya ice.

Wantanee was taken to the Wichit Police where she was charged with, and admitted to being in possession of Category 1 drugs with an intent to sell.

The arrest of Wantanee came after police received a tip-off that a woman named only as ‘Nongwho lived on the housing estate was selling drug to others drug dealers in Phuket.

Police went to the reported address where Wantanee lived, conducted a search and found ya bah and ya ice inside.

Wantanee told police that she bought the drugs from her friend named only as ‘Tom’ from Bangkok. She has just returned from hiding some of the drugs under a tree on Patanatongthin Rd in Wichit for her customer to collect before she was arrested.

On Monday (Mar 12) at 7pm, police arrested Somjit ‘Iead’ Muangrueak, 45, from Phuket at a house on Anuphas Phuket Kan Rd in Phuket Town and seized 2.2 kilograms of kratom leaves.

She was taken to the Phuket City Police Station to face a charge with possession of Category 5 drug with an intent to sell.
The arrest of Somjit came after police were notified that a group of teenagers were taking drugs at the house.

Police went to the house, conducted a search and found kratom inside a basket kept in a closet.

Somkit admitted that she bought kratom from a man who known only as ‘Bangfor B800 per kg.

At 9:30am yesterday (Mar 14), police arrested Sompop ‘Khai’ Meechai, 41, from Phuket at a motel in the Poonpon Night Plaza in Phuket Town when he was found in possession of 6.93g of ya ice and six ya bah pills.

Sompop was taken to Phuket City Police Station to face a charge of possession of Category 1 drugs with an intent to sell.

The arrest of Sompop came after police received a tip-off that a man named only as 'Khai' was selling drugs to teenagers in the area.

Police were told that he always had drugs in his possession and that he was at the motel.

Police went to the motel and when Sompop left his room they searched him and found the drugs inside one of his short pockets.

Sompop admitted that he bought drugs from a man also named only as ‘Bang’.
