The worms, about two to three centimetres in length, overran the park, covering trees, roads, playground equipment, and even infiltrating some homes.
Local villagers report a growing fear of encountering the worms, which have appeared in vast numbers on nearly every inch of the park’s trees.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s as if they’re warning us of something,” said one resident who asked not to be named. “We’re worried about the children, who come here to play and exercise every evening.”
The invasion was first noticed early in the morning by ‘Ms Nit’ (not her real name), a local vendor with a shop near the park.
At around 5:30am, she spotted worms on the lawn and attempted to clean them away. But as she went about her day, she encountered more and more of them ‒ even fearing they had gotten into her car. She quickly notified the village headman, who arrived to assess the situation.
“I was already terrified of worms,” Ms. Nit said, sharing her fear of the infestation spreading further and impacting the village’s children. The sudden and unprecedented nature of this invasion has villagers on edge as they await further action from local authorities.
The Phuket News has confirmed that the local residents have informed Wichit Municipality of the situtaion.
