The 27th edition of the competition, being held at several courses in and near Phuket, started on Saturday (Nov 4) and runs until this coming Saturday (Nov 11).

More than 490 golfers from 33 countries will compete in competition at Laguna Golf Phuket, Red Mountain Golf Club, Blue Canyon and Aquella Golf and Country Club.

There are several celebrities competing as part of the field, including former Liverpool and Real Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, most remembered for helping the Reds comeback against AC Milan in the 1995 Champions League Final where he performed herocially in the penalty shoot out.

The opening ceremony on Saturday was held at Angsana Laguna Phuket, the official host of the WAGC 2023 Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

The occasion was presided over by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who was joined by Neil G. Nord, Chairman and CEO of WAGC Ltd, and WAGC President Isaac Saminathan.

The WAGC started in 1995 and has served as an inspiring tournament for amateur players, who compete on an individual and team basis.

Recent editions of the world finals were held in Malaysia, specifically in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sabah before the tournament returned to Thailand this year.

Team Malaysia are the defending champions and will be looking to retain their title on the Phuket courses throughout this week.
