Woman rescued from lake suicide bid

PHUKET: A woman in a deep state of emotional distress was pulled from a lake in Srisoonthorn late yesterday afternoon (May 15) after what is believed to have been a suicide attempt.

Thalang Police received a call from local resident Amnauy Aimurai, 61, reporting that a woman had had jumped into the lake at Bang Maluan, in Moo 8 Srisoonthorn, at 5:30pm.

He said the woman, dressed in a black shirt and black shorts and about 32-35 years old, appeared drunk and kept speaking confusedly about “life” and crying.

A security guard told police at the scene that he saw the woman pull up on her motorbike and walk straight into the lake.

The security guard jumped in and pulled her out.

“She kept crying and tried to jump in again, and shouted out loud, ‘Why my life have to be like this?’” he said.

People passing by helped him to keep the woman away from the water until the police arrived, he added.

Rescue workers arrived and transported the woman to Thalang Hospital.

The woman’s motorbike was taken to Thalang Police Station.

Police are now looking to contact the woman’s relatives so they can take the woman into their care and take her motorbike back.
