The Phuket Immigration Bureau of the Royal Thai Police reported the arrest through a standard Facebook post published today (Sept 24) on the Phuket Immigration Checkpoint page, which is dedicated to the activities of the officers stationed at the airport. The identity of the female suspect was not revealed.
The suspect was arrested at the International Departure Hall of the airport at around 7.20pm. Phuket Immigration officers did not elaborate on whether the woman was attempting to leave the country by air or was present at the airport with some other purpose.
According to the report, the suspect was arrested on a warrant issued by Nakhon Sri Thammarat District Court. The woman is accused of "jointly committing a fraud." She is to be sent to Muang Nakhon Sri Thammarat Police Station for further legal processing.
’X-Ray’ activities focus on Chalong
As the woman was apprehended on Sept 23, the arrest was not included in the weekly report about the ’X-Ray’ activities conducted by Phuket Immigration and reported through the main Phuket Immigration page on Facebook.
The report for Sept 15-21 states that a total of five people were arrested and charged by Phuket Immigration during the seven-day period. All five individuals were charged with overstaying their visas. As the suspects were arrested, all of them face being blacklisted from visiting Thailand for the next five years.
In total, 96 foreign nationals were "X-Rayed" for visa status from Sept 15 through Sept 21. Out of those, 39 were Russian nationals, seven were Brits, six were Canadians, three were Chinese, and three more were holding French passports.
Out of 66 addresses inspected, 35 were in Chalong. During the previous week police officers inspected 42 location with 13 of them being in Chalong.
