Lt Siraphat Chuphong of the Chalong Police was informed of the accident at 4:40am.
Police along with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation and Rawai Municipality arrived at the scene, at the entrance to Soi Saturdays along Sai Yuan Rd, to find a Honda Click motorbike still jammed against the power pole.
The body of the woman, estimated to be 40-45 years old, was on the ground on the far side of the pole. The woman was dressed in a leopard pattern tank top. Her dress shoes and handbag were on the ground nearby.
Police believe the woman worked at a bar In the Sai Yuan area, and may have fallen asleep while driving home.
Her body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, while the motorbike was taken to Chalong Police Station while police continue their investigation.
