Police were alerted to the accident at 1:46am, with Pol Lt Col Somchai Nubun of Kathu Police Station responding to the scene along with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation Phuket.
Officers arrived at the scene, on Phra Phuket Kaew Rd in Moo 1, Kathu, to find a white Toyota Yaris sedan with severe front-end damage.
The driver, identified by her Singburi driver’s licence as Panisa Srisuk, 30, was found unconscious and critically injured inside the vehicle but still with a pulse. She was rushed to Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, where she was later pronounced dead.
A white Chevrolet pickup truck with Phuket plates was also found nearby, driven by Anont Sathan, who was traveling with his wife. Both sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Witnesses told police that Ms Panisa’s vehicle had been traveling from Kathu toward the Samkong Intersection.
As the car rounded a curve just past the Andaman Water Park, Ms Panisa reportedly lost control, crossed the median and collided head-on with the pickup truck coming from the opposite direction.
Police said they have documented the scene and are investigating the cause of the crash before proceeding with any legal processes.
