The woman, named as 33-year-old Pikul Phompan, was confirmed as a resident of Khon Kaen who was staying alone at the hotel in Phuket.

Miss Pikul had checked into the hotel (left unnamed at the request of the venue) on Wednesday (Dec 20) and was scheduled to leave yesterday.

Pol. Lt. Wissanu Chumi, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) at Patong Police Station received notification of the incident from the Patong Police Station radio centre around 1:40pm on Friday and proceeded to the venue immediately.

There he and colleagues from the forensic team discovered Miss Pikul’s dead body in room 501, hanging from the bathroom doorframe.

After questioning hotel staff, it transpired that Miss Pikul had requested some drinking water from the front desk around 3pm on Thursday but she was unheard of since.

A hotel housekeeper went to the room to clean around 1:30pm on Friday and it was then that she discovered Miss Pikul’s dead body.

Police confirmed there were no signs of struggle in the room and that a suicide note had been left by Miss Pikul which described how an accumulation of financial debts had left her in a very distressed and desperate state, which ultimately contributed to the decision to take her own life.

Miss Pikul’s body was taken away by medical officials who will conduct a full autopsy before her body is returned to family in order for religious merit-making and funeral arrangements to be made.
