Chalong Police were alerted by the emergency 191 radio centre at about 10am, and were dispatched to a garden area in Moo 10, Chalong.
At the scene, officers were told by Suman Nongnuan, who discovered the body, that he walked past the garden pond at about 9:30am and noticed personal belongings lying near the water.
He looked into the pond and noticed what appeared to be part of a human body. Using a stick, he confirmed it was a person and immediately notified authorities.
Emergency rescue workers and hospital staff were called to the scene, and the woman’s body was recovered from the pond.
Police were told that the victim, later identified as Sukattaya Lanoi, originally from Nakhon Phanom, had not been seen since around noon on Monday (Dec 8).
Chalong Police stated that a preliminary examination of the body found no visible signs of physical assault. The body was transported to hospital for a full post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said the death is being treated as a non-suspicious case pending the results of the forensic examination.
