Patong Police were notified of the incident at 6:42am. Pol Lt Nonthawat Treekaew, Deputy Investigator at Patong Police Station, responded to the scene along with officers from Patong Hospital and rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.
The woman was later identified as Wasitthi Phanorach, 38, from Udon Thani Province. She was found wearing a white shirt and trousers, lying face down on a public walkway between buildings off Thaweewong Rd.
Witnesses told police they noticed the woman lying in the area and suspected she had died. The incident was then reported through the 191 emergency hotline and the 1669 emergency medical service.
Initial investigations indicate the woman may have fallen from a height. Police noted damage to a satellite dish belonging to a restaurant on a nearby building, which investigators believe may be connected to the incident.
Officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence while photographs and other forensic evidence were collected.
Police have not yet determined the exact cause of death and said further investigations are underway.
