Woman dies in Phuket bike-pickup collision

PHUKET: The driver of a motorbike was injured and his female passenger died when he changed lanes in front of a pickup truck yesterday morning (November 26).

The accident took place just before 10am near the Baan Meaung Mai U-turn on Thepkassattri Rd.

The motorcycle driver, Wirat Sironghoi, 45, from Khon Kaen, suffered head injuries and was taken to Thalang Hospital. His passenger, Patcharin Sironghoi, 32, also from Khon Kaen, was killed instantly in the collision.

The truck driver, Wichai Sopaku, 27, told police that the motorcycle sped past him and then changed lanes abruptly.

“We were both going at high speed when he suddenly cut in front of me. I hit the back of the motorcycle causing the passenger to bounce off. She landed head-first.”

Neither victim was wearing a helmet.On Monday evening another motorcyclist was killed when he slammed into the rear of a 10-wheel truck travelling along Thepkrasatri Road in Mai Khao.

Police named the dead man as O Talayleing, 27, a local man.

Witnesses told police O was travelling at high speed and that his bike wobbled erratically just before the collision.

The truck driver, Zhein Phergsaard, 67, from Chumporn, said he stopped his vehicle after hearing a loud bang.
