Chitchamai Naithong, 30, was arrested at a rented room on Soi Manee Thong, off Ratchapathanusorn Rd, yesterday, Patong Police confirmed.
She was found in possession of the contents of the bag she stole from the TOKI WASH laundry shop on Phra Metta Rd in the early hours of last Saturday (Feb 10).
Police were alerted to the theft after the owner of the laundry shop, Chawarat Daowathanakit, 29, reported it at Patong Police Station on Saturday morning.
Mr Chawarat said he became aware of the theft on arriving at work, then checked CCTV footage from inside the shop.
The CCTV footage showed a person enter the shop at about 4:16am. The person checked the contents of the bag and took the bag and left the shop at about 4:23am.
Officers investigating the theft tracked down the perpetrator, and arrested her yesterday, Patong Police said.
Seized as evidence were the clothes and shoes Chitchamai wore while committing the theft.
Officers also seized her bag of freshly washed bounty, comprising a white LEVI’S brand T-shirt, a blue LEVI’S brand T-shirt, a black ‘Camp David’ T-shirt, a pair of white ‘Zara’ shorts, a pair of white ‘Minishop’ shorts’ and a pair of blue ‘Galleries Lafayette’ jeans.
Chitchamai was taken to Patong Police Station and charged with “theft at night”, Patong Police confirmed.
No reason was given as to why Chitchamai felt compelled to steal the bag of laundry.
