At about 2.15pm today, Tachatchai police were alerted of the incident which happened about 200 meteres from the entrance to Blue Canon golf course.
Authorities arrived to the scene, where the motionless victim was lying on her back in the middle of the road, with broken limbs and a small crowd of rescue volunteers surrounding the body
The 78 year old woman, whose home and family were nearby, was named as Ms Sian Phetlamul of Thalang's Sisunthon sub district.
A little more than 100 metres from the body there was a parked, black Isuzu truck with a damaged rear view mirror.
Police met a 27-year-old man, Mr Sudjai Sriphut of Surat Thani's Phanom district who claimed to be the driver of the vehicle.
Mr Sudjai gave a statement that he and his mother in law were returning to Phuket from a produce restock trip to Nakhon Si Thammarat, the same province of the truck's registration.
Police have seized the vehicle, detained Mr Sudjai and charged him with reckless driving resulting in a death.
Volunteers transported the victim's body to Thalang Hospital for a final inspection before releasing the body to relatives for ceremonial rites.
