Doctors at Phang Nga Hospital confirmed that Sunisa Chookaew, from Trang, had died of smoke inhalation yesterday afternoon (Oct 8), Takua Thung Police Chief Col Sirisak Wasasiri told The Phuket News.
“Three victims remain in critical condition at Phang Nga Hospital,” Col Sirisak said
The three who remain in intensive care are Supasinee Wonglee, 58, from Thalang in Phuket; a unnamed Thai man aged 46, and a 15-year-old girl whose name has yet to be released.
Dang Paharat, 76 – not 50, as initially reported by Phang Nga Hospital – was the first to succumb to smoke inhalation from the fire. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Phang Nga Hospital. (See story here.)
The driver of the bus, Praterng Sakkaew, 54, from Trang, he been charged with negligence causing death and injury.
The charge follows police learning that the fire started while workers were welding the driver’s seat in the bus while all 21 passengers, Thai and foreign, were still onboard. (See story here.)
