Snr Sgt Maj Somboon Khanpetch, chief of the traffic police at Chalong Police Station revealed that while he was on duty at Chalong Circle on Chao Fa East Rd a Honda City had stopped and its driver was calling for help.

“The driver shouted that there was a woman, Ms Chadaporn Kongsamoot, 18, from Trang, on the back seat ready to give birth. I ordered all traffic at the circle to move aside to let the vehicle pass to go to Chalong Hospital which is about 500 metres from the Circle,” he said.

While Snr Sgt Maj Somboon escorted the vehicle on his motorbike towards the hospital, Ms Chadaporn was suffering severe labours pain. She could wait no longer and gave birth on the back seat.

Just as the party arrived at the hospital doctors and nurses rushed to assist the new mother and new born baby and took them into the hospital building.

“Ms Chadaporn and her baby, named Nong Baimon and weighing 3.8kgs, are both doing fine and are both healthy,” said a member of staff from the hospital.
