Officers led by Pol Lt Sunthorn Nunkhong, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Wichit Police Station, conducted an operation on Thursday (May 15) that resulted in the arrest of two men for methamphetamine-related offenses.

The arrests followed an extended investigation targeting local drug networks.

The suspects were identified only as ‘Mr Ekkachai’, 46, from Moo 2, Wichit, and ‘Mr Wiraphat’, 24, Moo 5 in Srisoonthorn.

Ekkachai was charged with illegal use of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine). Wiraphat faces multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine for sale, illegal distribution and use of a Category 1 narcotic.

Police seized 193 methamphetamine pills (ya bah) ‒ orange, flat, round tablets stamped with ‘WY’ ‒ along with 8.79 grammes of crystal meth (ya ice), a mobile phone.

A urine sample from Wiraphat which tested positive for methamphetamine.

The arrests took place at a rented room in Makham Khu Community and at a residence on Soi Damrong 2 in Talat Yai, Phuket Town.

According to Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang, the operation marks a broader push to dismantle drug networks operating in the community.

“We are expanding investigations beyond users to reach dealers hidden within our neighborhoods,” he said.

“Our goal is to suppress drug distribution at all levels, and we will pursue related networks, including cases involving conspiracy and money laundering. Any assets linked to these crimes will be seized.

“We are doing everything we can to reduce the spread of drugs in the community, which in turn helps lower overall crime rates,’ he added.

The suspects are being held at Wichit Police Station pending further legal action, Pol Col Somsak confirmed.
