The weather will be caused by a variety of factors, SCMD Director Somchai Baimuang explained in a post today (February 25) on the centre’s Facebook page.

The first is strong northeast winds blowing across the South China Sea to the south of Thailand, combined with a weakening high pressure belt.

In addition, the climate is becoming warmer in the north of Thailand and a trough of low pressure currently covers the shores of Malaysia.

The result will be wetter weather over the whole of middle and lower southern Thailand, including Phuket.

In addition to the wet weather, the increased winds will kick up seas of 2 to 3 metres. Small boats should stay on shore, particularly today and tomorrow (February 25 and 26).

The weather should improve from Wednesday.
