Pol Lt Col Pacharathorn Chan-iad of the Patong Police was informed of the death by Patong Hospital at about 12:30pm yesterday (Jan 31).
The man, 60, along with his family of three traveled to Thailand on Jan 17 and arrived in Phuket on Tuesday (Jan 30), police noted in their report.
The family were staying at a hotel in Patong, and after breakfast at about 11am the man and his wife went to the beach and relaxed on beach chairs.
The man went to play in the water and after about five minutes came back and lay down on a beach chair, the wife told police.
Later, the man did not respond to attempts to rouse him. Worried, the wife called for help.
The man received basic life support until an ambulance arrived and he was taken to Patong Hospital, where a medical team attempted to resuscitate him for approximately 30 minutes, but to no avail.
Doctors at Patong Hospital found no lesions on the man’s body and attributed the death to heart failure.
Police reported that they were coordinating with the family to arrange for the man’s body to be flown home.
