Water at Phuket’s Darasamut Intersection just excess rainwater, says Highways Dept chief

PHUKET: A small amount of water that continually runs onto the road at the Darasamut Intersection is said to be rain water that comes from a drainage hole made to clear excess rain water that sits on the roof of the Darasamut Underpass following heavy rain chief of the Highways Department has confirmed.

The new chief of the Phuket Highways Department Prinya Haijai told The Phuket News today that underpass constructors Italian-Thai Development Corporation Limited (ITD) have been told about the problem on a number of occasions following complaints made by local motorists.

“I have informed Italian-Thai Development Corporation Limited (ITD) a few time about this problem following complaints,” he said.

“They have told me that when it rains, water sits in a gap between concrete layers in the roof of the underpass and that this water is the rainwater coming from a drainage hole which has been made so the rain water can escape.

The company has assured me that they will start work on a long-term solution to fix the problem in early August.” he added.
