Valentine's Day: Get on board the love train

For many across the world, Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is one of the most special days of the year. The chance for couples to celebrate their love for one another, for the singletons to unite in their pining, regrets or hatred for love, or perhaps they’re simply celebrating their independence and single life. But, it seems that no matter what, St Valentine’s Day is hard to ignore

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is approaching and it’s time to get on board the love train. And this year the ever-so-popular day falls on a Sunday and there are lots of things to do around the island. So, whether you’re single or part of a nauseatingly lovedup couple, The Phuket Newshas put together
a few ideas for you..

                                                          Valentine’s Day parties in Phuket

Impress your date or find a mate with your mind-blowing moves this February 14. Valentine’s Day 2016 is going to be extra special, because it falls on a Sunday, meaning no work, meaning extra scope for late-night fun and cosy lie-ins. Here are some of the parties that will take place in Phuket… Have fun out there, and don’t do anything we wouldn’t do

                                                            Groovin’

Find love on the dancefloor this February at Bangla Rd’s Seduction nightclub, or if you’re looking for somewhere a little more adventurous perhaps head to Illuzion. Either way, you won’t be short of parties on Bangla Rd.

                                                      Wining and Dining

Planning Valentine’s Day ideas doesn’t just mean dinner and a movie – consider one of the many romantic venues on the island. In addition to the events listed by sponsors on this insert, you might also consider a night at Iniala Gourmet, where couples can enjoy pastries, croissants, macaroons, and more at this inspired bakery, located in Boat Avenue in Cherng Talay.

And if it’s dinner with a view you’re after, check out The 9th Floor in Patong, where you can go to sip on bubbles as you look out over the glittering lights of Patong Beach.

And there are plenty of bars and restaurants that are ideal to sip away any first-date nerves in style, namely Wine Connection, Bliss Beach Club, Gallery Cafe, Plum and Cape Sienna. Or skip the meal and hit the sauce instead at one of the island’s swanky cocktail bars such as On Top Beach Club, dusitD2 Patong or Dream Beach Club.

                                                        Feel the loveat home!

And for those who just want a low-key Valentine’s Day at home, well than there are plenty of romantic movies that are good for making you laugh so hard you feel sick, if not weep like your heart is about to break. Is there another kind of film that can toy with our emotions like romances?

Of course we could list an endless number of films for you to watch this Valentine’s Day, but we’ve kept it down to a minimal five, and purely because, although the films are popular, they may have been forgotten about...

1. Brokeback Mountain (2005)
2. In the Mood for Love (2000)
3. Casablanca (1942)
4. Brief Encounter (1945)
5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

                                                      Mood setting music

If you need a little inspiration for some romantic music to put on in the background while you whip up a delicious meal or kick back with some wine, then be sure you’ve got the following five songs in your collection:

1. ‘Vision of Love’ – Mariah Carey
2. ‘Heroes’ – David Bowie
3. ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’ – Ramones
4. ‘Angels’ – The xx
5. ‘Countdown’ – Beyoncé

Well that’s it folks, we hope no matter what you do or where you spend this glorious day, The Phuket Newswould like to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!
