Mr Saidov went swimming alone at about midday on Monday.

Before going to swim, a security guard at the hotel warned him that it was a red flag area, meaning swimming was prohibited due to strong waves.

Mr Saidov ignored the warning and went swimming alone, police reported.

After less than five minutes in the water, Mr Saidov encountered difficulties. He was caught ni a strong rip current and was being pulled away from the beach.

Lifeguards managed to recover Mr Saidov from the water, but by the time they had him back on the beach he had a weak pulse. The lifeguards administered CPR and called for rescue workers to arrive, but their efforts were unable to keep Mr Saidov alive.

Mr Saidov had no pulse and was unresponsive, and was rushed to Chalong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the police report concluded.

In an unrelated incident, police on Monday (May 6) were also called to a hotel on the Karon beach road where a Russian man was found dead in his hotel room from apparent respiratory failure.

The body of the man, Dmitry Sitdikov, 39, was found by hotel staff after he failed to check out.

Police arrived to find inside the room 28 empty 300ml bottles of Sangsom and 14 empty 650ml beer bottles. Clothing, personal items, a mobile phone, personal medicine, clothes were in a suitcase, police reported.
