Philip Rogers was seriously injured in a road accident last week and is scheduled to undergo an operation requiring two surgeons. However, the procedure cannot proceed without five units of highly specific blood.
Although his blood group is A, doctors have confirmed he has a very rare blood phenotype due to the presence of Anti-Duffy A (Anti-Fya) antibodies. This means he requires Group A red blood cells that are Duffy A antigen–negative (Fya-negative) and fully compatible on crossmatching.
According to the blood bank, 40 units of Group A blood currently in stock were tested, but all were found to be incompatible. No suitable blood is available at this time.
Hospital staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital are urgently appealing for donors with Group A blood who may be Fya-negative to come forward for testing.
Anyone able to help is asked to contact the hospital’s International Department:
Methavee Maneesri, RN

Time is critical, and donations could help save Mr Rogers’ life.
