Police were called to the scene, on the road from Thepkrasattri Rd to Phuket International Airport (Route 4026), at about 9:30am.

Officers arrived to find the van stopped in the right-hand lane. The van driver, Somporn Sri Sawang, was waiting at the scene.

According to Thalang Police, 60-year-old Narong Tiangnoi was driving a blue Honda Dream motorbike with sidecar, carrying 68-year-old Ma-ae Udomlak as a passenger, when they were struck by a silver Toyota van with ‘yellow’ licence plates.

Both vehicles were reportedly traveling in the same direction, eastbound towards Thepkrasattri Rd, when the collision took place.

Emergency responders arrived and transported Mr Narong and Ms Ma-ae to Thalang Hospital. However, both later succumbed to their injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Drug and alcohol tests conducted on the van driver showed no signs of intoxication, police said.

Police said they were reviewing additional evidence and witness statements to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.
