Police were called to the scene, about 100 metres before the Koh Kaew Post Office, at 3:40am.
Police and rescue workers from Koh Kaew Tambon Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) and the Kusoldharm Foundation, along with an EMS unit from Mission Hospital.Phuket, arrived to find a white, six-wheeled Isuzu delivery truck, registered in Samut Songkhram, still beside the power pole with heavy damage to its front.
Two people inside the truck were injured. Phachara Chuaykul had suffered injuries to his face and head, while Pramote Soisan had suffered an injury to his left leg as well as injuries to his face and head. Both received first aid at the scene and were taken to Phuket Mission Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the truck, Sermwitch Chonchobtham, 52, from Surat Thani, was not injured in the impact.
Mr Sermwitch told police that the three of them were returning from delivering goods to convenience stores in Phuket Town when the accident happened.
He fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the power pole by the side of the road, he said.
Police have yet to determine what charges, if any, Mr Sermwitch might face. He was taken to Phuket City Police Station to be tested for alcohol
