The incident began at 8:12pm last night (Oct 28) when Bancha Chuaychu, 27, filed a complaint at Kathu Police Station.

He reported that an unidentified male suspect had tried to steal his red motorcycle, which parked outside his residence.

CCTV footage showed the thief, a man wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and grey-black jeans, approaching the parked motorcycle from across the street, attempting to start it.

However, as he struggled to put the motorcycle in gear, Mr Bancha, who had noticed the commotion, ran out of his home to confront him.

During the struggle, the thief dropped the motorcycle, damaging it, and fled without completing the theft.

At 1am today, police apprehended the two suspects following an investigation by Kathu Police’s patrol and investigative units.

Police found the suspects in possession of two stolen motorcycles. A background check revealed that one of the suspects had previously been arrested for theft by Kathu Police and was recently released from prison in April.

Police have released the CCTV footage, which shows the failed theft attempt as a reminder for residents to secure their vehicles ‒ including removing the keys from the ignition when owners park their motorbikes.

The footage captures the thief arriving on a white Honda Click, accompanied by another man in a black shirt and shorts, who waited across the street while the thief attempted the theft.

Both suspects have been detained at Kathu Police Station for further legal action.
