Officers from Kamala Police Station were called to a three-storey house in Bang Wan Village, behind the Kamala Child Development Center near the Kamala reservoir, at about 3:30pm.

Police and rescue workers found the body of the 30-year-old Turkish national lying near the bedroom door on the third floor of the house.

According to police, there were no signs of physical assault or struggle. Investigators reported finding traces of bodily fluids on the man’s face, while vomit was also discovered in the toilet.

A friend of the deceased, a 27-year-old Turkish national*, told police he last saw the man alive at about 3am. He said the man had been coughing, vomiting and complaining of back pain.

The friend told investigators that the deceased regularly used marijuana alongside medication to relieve his symptoms and had used marijuana on the night before his death. The two later went to sleep in separate rooms.

The friend said he woke up at about 3pm and found the man dead before notifying authorities.

Police said a search of the room uncovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and evidence of marijuana use. However, investigators found no signs of forced entry, ransacking or a struggle inside the residence.

Forensic doctors from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted a preliminary examination at the scene before the body was transferred to Patong Hospital pending further legal procedures and an examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police said the Turkish Embassy would be contacted to assist in notifying relatives and arranging religious rites.
