The incident occurred yesterday evening, when police set up a checkpoint on the section of Patak Rd that continues along the southern end of Karon Beach.

At about 8:08pm, officers signaled for a red Honda Scoopy motorcycle, ridden by Samir Brki, 23, to stop for inspection.

Of note, police identified the man as both Samir Brki and Samir Briki in their report.

However, Brki reportedly ignored the signals, veered into oncoming traffic and sped through the checkpoint in a dangerous manner.

Police immediately pursued Brki using a patrol motorcycle and car, eventually stopping him near the entrance to a hotel on Patak Rd, about 300 metres from the checkpoint.

Officers conducted a search but found no illegal items in his possession. However, upon checking his credentials, it was discovered that he did not have a valid driver’s license.

Brki was subsequently arrested, and his motorcycle was seized as evidence. Officers informed him of the charges and his legal rights before taking him to Karon Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police have not disclosed whether Brki faced additional charges for evading the checkpoint.
