The incident occurred at about 11:50pm on Phra Baramee Rd, near Kalim Beach, as traffic was heading towards Kamala. Video footage posted online shows a water tanker truck abruptly cutting in front of a car before continuing along the road.
According to the driver who shared the footage, they had been travelling normally when the truck attempted to exit a side road and merge into traffic. The driver explained they were unable to slow down to give way due to another vehicle following closely behind.
The situation escalated when the truck began following the car at close range before both vehicles came to a stop. The truck driver then exited his vehicle carrying a scythe and approached the car, threatening the occupants, who reportedly included foreign passengers.
Despite the aggressive confrontation, no physical violence was reported and the situation did not escalate further.
The driver who posted the video said they attempted to contact the company operating the tanker truck following the incident, but had received no response as of the afternoon of the following day.
The viral clip has prompted widespread reaction on social media, with many users urging the victim to file a formal complaint with police, citing the clear video evidence. Others recommended lodging a report with relevant transport authorities.
The page that shared the footage also issued a warning to road users, stressing that while courtesy on the road is important, adherence to traffic laws and safety must come first. It called on the company involved to investigate the driver’s behaviour and take appropriate action to prevent similar incidents.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety in Phuket, particularly regarding aggressive driving and the use of weapons in traffic disputes. Authorities have yet to comment on the case.
