The video showed the oil truck travelling northbound on Thepkrasattri Rd in Thalang. The truck driver indicated, then moved abruptly in the right lane. With a car blocking his way, the truck driver then indicated with very short notice then moved back into the left lane, forcing a white car nearly off the road.

With the white car now behind him, the truck driver then braked abruptly, alarming other motorists and prompting fears of a serious crash.

The footage circulated widely on social media, with many viewers urging authorities to investigate and use the case as an example against dangerous driving.

Thalang Police yesterday (July 1) confirmed they had tracked down the driver. “Traffic police summoned the driver for questioning before issuing a citation on a charge of reckless driving likely to endanger others,” Thlang Police said in a brief post online.

Officers also ordered the transport company to ensure all drivers undergo stricter road safety training and warned that further traffic violations would not be tolerated.

However, Thalang Police made no mention of any incident between the white car and the truck that may have sparked what appeared to be rod rage by the truck driver.

Regardless, Thalang Police noted that the Phuket Provincial Land Transport Office (PLTO) had also launched legal action by issuing formal notices of alleged offences to both the transport operator and the truck driver.

Both have been summoned to acknowledge the charges before fines and other legal penalties are imposed in accordance with the law, Thalang Police said.

Police said the enforcement action was taken in direct response to public complaints received through social media.

The case remains subject to the legal process, with authorities yet to announce the penalties to be imposed by the PLTO.
