Patong Police were notified of the fire at about 5:10pm after receiving reports of flames engulfing a restaurant at the southern end of Phra Metta Rd in Patong.
Firefighters from the Patong Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division, assisted by police and municipal officers, worked to contain the blaze and brought it under control shortly afterwards.
Initial investigations found that the fire began when an electrical transformer installed in front of the restaurant exploded, igniting flames that quickly spread to the building.
The fire extensively damaged the four-unit Zaap Rang Saeng Khong restaurant, destroying property inside including tables, chairs and kitchen equipment. Two motorcycles parked outside were also damaged.
Despite the significant damage, no injuries were reported.
Police documented the scene, photographed the damage and prepared a fire scene map before coordinating with officers from the Phuket Provincial Forensic Science Unit to conduct a detailed examination.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to confirm the exact cause of the transformer explosion and assess the full extent of the damage.
