The incident occurred at approximately 7:30am. The case was formally reported to Thalang Police Station at 8:25am.

The injured officer, Pol Sgt Maj Chalermchai Sothong, 52, a Traffic Police Squad Leader attached to Thalang Police Station, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket for medical examination.

According to the police report, Pol Sgt Maj Chalermchai was facilitating traffic and arranging barriers at the roundabout when a vehicle collided with one of the barriers, causing it to rebound and strike him, knocking him to the ground.

The vehicle involved fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Dashcam footage of the crash, later shared widely online, showed a white four-door pickup truck travelling along Thepkrasattri Rd before striking a barrier just in front of Pol Sgt Maj Chalermchai.

The video showed the vehicle continuing without slowing, fuelling widespread criticism on social media.

Many online commentators questioned whether the driver had been distracted or failed to see the officer, with some suggesting possible mobile phone use or negligence. Others criticised the driver for not stopping to render assistance.

Following the incident, police reviewed CCTV footage and identified the vehicle as a white Ford Ranger pickup truck bearing Bangkok licence plates, registered to Pornpis Jitprapan.

Police later determined that the vehicle was being driven by Tey Wee Keong Jonathan, 44, a Singaporean national and the registered owner’s son-in-law.

Mr Tey subsequently presented himself to investigators along with the vehicle. He told police he had been driving from Kathu to his residence in Sakhu at the time and claimed he was unaware that his vehicle had been involved in a collision.

He said he only learned of the incident after being informed by Ms Pornpis.

Investigators have charged him under traffic laws for reckless driving causing injury and damage, failing to stop and provide assistance, and failing to report the incident to authorities.

The pickup truck has been seized as evidence, and the registered owner has been summoned for questioning to confirm details of the driver’s identity.

Mr Tey has undergone drug and alcohol testing at Thalang Hospital, with results pending. Meanwhile, the injured officer’s medical report is also being compiled as part of the case.

Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong, Superintendent of Thalang Police Station, confirmed that legal proceedings will proceed in accordance with the evidence.
