Officials from the Rawai Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre responded to a call for assistance at about 6:40pm after receiving reports that a monk had sprained his ankle at the base of Laem Phromthep and was unable to walk back up the steep path.

Firefighters, paramedics and nursing staff were dispatched to the scene, where they found the injured monk suffering from an ankle sprain sustained while attempting to return from the lower area of the cape.

Emergency personnel provided first aid, applying an elastic bandage to support the injured ankle before carefully moving the monk on a stretcher along the difficult terrain.

During the rescue operation, two foreign tourists who witnessed the incident volunteered to assist officials in carrying the stretcher up the steep path to safety.

The monk was subsequently transported to Chalong Hospital for further treatment.

Rawai Municipality praised both the emergency responders and the tourists for their assistance, expressing appreciation for the kindness shown during the rescue.

"Thank you to the two foreign tourists who helped with the move," the municipality said in a statement. "Their support was greatly appreciated."

The successful rescue highlighted the cooperation between emergency personnel and members of the public in assisting those in need at one of Phuket’s most visited landmarks.
