At around 6:30pm, Karon Police were informed of a drowning at Kata Beach. Police and rescue personnel, led by Pol Lt Col M.L. Sanya Suksawat, responded to the scene where tourists were already performing CPR on a 62-year-old Russian man.
Despite efforts, the man remained unconscious and was rushed to Chalong Hospital.
Around the same time, another incident occurred at Karon Beach, near the Karon Sea Sands Hotel.
Police and rescue teams were dispatched and found a 30-year-old Chinese tourist in need of assistance. He was still conscious after first aid and was also transported to Chalong Hospital.
Both incidents occurred despite clear warnings advising tourists not to enter the water due to dangerous conditions.
Police and local lifeguards are continuing to urge beachgoers to observe red ‘no swimming’ flags and lifegards’ warning, and not enter the water where it is marked dangerous to swim.
