Cherng Talay Police said officers recently took action against motorists who drove onto the beach and issued fines under public nuisance laws.
The offence was described as “committing an act that causes nuisance to others in a public place”, which carries a maximum fine of B10,000.
Police did not say how many tourists were fined or identify those involved.
In announcing the action, officers urged both residents and visitors to help protect Phuket’s natural environment by keeping vehicles off the beach and complying with traffic laws.
“Beaches are for walking and relaxing, not for driving cars,” the police said in their appeal, adding that the cooperation of the public is essential to preserving the island’s scenic coastline.
