Kamala Police were notified of the jeep abandoned on the beach at 9:32am.
Officers arrived to find the light green jeep stuck in the wet sand. One of the wheels was sunk about halfway into the sand.
Local resident Amit Amor Islam posted a live broadcast online, explaining that local residents had tried to stop the person from driving onto the beach. The tourist is believed to be Chinese.
The jeep was recovered before the high tide rose.
Officers are now tracking down the owner of the vehicle in the hope of further tracking down who was driving the jeep at the time.
