An investigation team from Thalang Police Station made the arrest on Saturday (July 18) as part of the Royal Thai Police’s ‘Operation 90 Days’ anti-narcotics campaign, which is running from July 1 to Sept 30.
Police identified the suspect as Vanus ‘Kaew’ Yodsri, 40, of Pa Khlok, Thalang.
According to police, officers arrested Vanus at a house in Moo 4, Pa Khlok, before continuing their search into a nearby mangrove forest, where the drugs were found.
The 1,699 methamphetamine pills were seized as evidence.
Vanus has been charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) for sale without permission.
Police said the alleged offence was committed for commercial purposes and contributed to the spread of drugs, affecting public safety and national security.
FIREARMS DESTROYED
In a separate development, Phuket City Police destroyed 20 confiscated firearms on Friday (July 17) to prevent them from being used in future crimes.
The destruction took place outside Phuket City Police Station under the supervision of Phuket City Police Superintendent Pol Col Chatree Chukaew and other officers.
Police said the firearms had all been seized during 2026 and were destroyed in accordance with Royal Thai Police regulations.
Officials said the destruction was intended to prevent the weapons from being reused for criminal or other illegal purposes, while also disposing of dangerous evidence and helping to reinforce public confidence in public safety.
