Before handing over the Games flag to 2027 hosts Malaysia, the Kingdom capped their campaign by winning the women’s sepak takraw title, lifting their record gold medal haul to 233. They also claimed 154 silver and 112 bronze medals for a staggering total of 499.

Indonesia finished a distant second with 91 golds, while Vietnam were third with 87.

Thailand’s women’s sepak takraw team delivered the final gold medal of the 33rd SEA Games, just hours before the closing ceremony.

They swept fierce rivals Vietnam 2-0 (15-10, 15-6) at Nakhon Pathum Gymnasium, avenging the men’s team’s earlier defeat to the same opponents.

The men’s disastrous campaign ended with a semi-final loss to Vietnam 1-2 (13-15, 15-6, 9-15), marking the first time in 32 years they failed to reach a SEA Games gold medal contest since Singapore 1993.

Earlier, Malaysia stunned Thailand in the men’s regu final, ending the hosts’ 34-year stranglehold on the sport.

In total, the takraw squad claimed six golds - four from the women’s side (hoop, team regu, quadrant, regu), one from the men’s hoop, and one from mixed quadrant - plus three silvers and two bronzes.

Bronze in Jomtien waters

Thailand earned bronze in marathon swimming as Kittinun Chotistayanggoon, Kamonchanok Kwanmuang, Thitirat Charoensup and Ratthawat Thammananthachote clocked 1:14.27 hours in Jomtien.

Vietnam took gold in 1:12.18, with Singapore claiming silver in 1:12.53.

Volleyball double

Thailand completed a golden double in indoor volleyball after the men’s team captured their first SEA Games crown since 2017 - and ninth overall - at Huamark Indoor Stadium on Friday night.

Led by Korean coach Park Ki-Won, the Thai men dethroned three-time defending champions Indonesia in a 3-2 thriller (25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12), joining their women’s counterparts as champions.

Napadet Bhinijdee led Thailand with 29 points, while Chaiwat Thungkham added 18. Indonesia’s Rivan Nurmulki topped the match with 32.

As SEA Games winners, Thailand booked a place at the 2026 Asian Volleyball Championship.

Philippines edged Vietnam 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 16-14) for bronze.

Hat-trick for Suthasini

Table tennis ace Suthasini Sawettabut completed a golden treble after clinching the women’s singles crown on Friday.

The 31-year-old rallied from 1-3 down to beat doubles partner Orawan Paranang 4-3 (14-12, 5-11, 2-11, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-8) in a repeat of the 2021 final in Vietnam, won by Orawan.

The singles triumph added to her team and doubles titles, matching Orawan’s triple feat in Hanoi three years ago.

“There were tears after I won because at 1-3 down I didn’t think I had a chance,” said Suthasini. “This is my second SEA Games singles gold, 10 years after the first in Singapore. It’s for my family who supported me from day one.”

More than a dozen in the ring

Thailand’s boxing team wrapped up with 14 golds, two silvers and one bronze, underlining their dominance.

Sarawut Sukthet (57kg), Sakda Ruamtham (60kg), Khunatip Pidnuch (63.5kg), Bunjong Sinsiri (69kg), and Weeraphon Jongjoho (75kg) joined Thitiwat Phlongaurai (48kg) and Thanarat Saengphet (54kg) as men’s winners, with Thitisan Panmot the lone finalist beaten.

The women’s squad, led by Paris Olympics bronze medallist Janjaem Suwannapheng and fellow Olympians Chuthamat Raksat and Baison Manikon, added seven more golds.

Rowing glory

Thailand struck double gold in rowing, with Siripong Chaiwichitchonkul winning the men’s solo (CW1X) in 2:46.65 and Parisa Chaempudsa taking the women’s in 2:55.61.

The Kingdom also swept floorball team golds - men beating Philippines 6-2, women edging Singapore 2-1 - and claimed women’s indoor hockey gold with a 4-3 win over Malaysia.

Doiporn Pridasittinan added modern pentathlon gold in the women’s obstacle laser run.

The women’s water polo team won gold, while the men settled for bronze.

Silver on ice rink

Thailand’s men’s ice hockey team fell short, losing 3-2 to Indonesia in the gold medal match.

The women’s side had earlier made history, beating Philippines 13-4 to win the first-ever SEA Games gold in the sport.

Basketball brought double heartbreak as both Thai teams lost finals to the Philippines.

Vietnam beat Thailand 4-2 in the men’s Arena of Valor esports final, while Malaysia edged the polo team 10-6.5 in the mixed handicap decider.

Thai shooters earned silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3-position team and bronze in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol team.

The Chamnanjan brothers added wrestling medals - Chiranuwat silver (86kg freestyle) and Parinya bronze (74kg).

In bowling, the men’s team took silver in the team of four, while the women’s side claimed bronze.

Futsal flop

Thailand’s men’s futsal team fell short, losing 6-1 to Indonesia in their final group match at Nonthaburi Stadium.

Having beaten Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam earlier, Thailand needed only a draw to secure gold.

Instead, Indonesia produced a ruthless display to snatch the title, leaving Thailand with silver.

Head coach Miguel Rodrigo resigned afterwards, vowing to “return home to Spain and never coach again”.
