Thailand were invited to take part in the tournament by the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), reports the Bangkok Post.
Eight countries will be participating in the event in Al-Ahsa city. They are hosts Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Thailand, Australia and Egypt.
The tournament will serve as a warm-up for the AFC U23 Asian Cup in Qatar, starting Apr 15.
Thailand U23 coach Issara Sritaro said the team lacked many key players.
“Some of them have club commitments and we didn’t want to risk Teerasak Poeiphimai and Setthasit Suwannaset as they are still recovering,” said Issara.
“It will be a good opportunity for us to spot our weaknesses and improve before the Asian tournament.”
Thailand will be playing their first match of the event against South Korea on Mar 21.
