Indonesia struck first through Andres Putra in the 16th minute, raising hopes of defending the title they won two years ago, reports the Bangkok Post.
But Thailand responded with composure. Captain Itticha Praphaphan converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time to restore parity, before Panut Kittipanuwong’s decisive strike in the 31st minute sealed the contest.
The hosts held firm thereafter to underline their supremacy in the competition.
Vietnam claimed third place with a commanding 4-0 win over Australia in the classification match.
Nhan Gia Hung opened the scoring inside three minutes, followed by goals from Chau Doan Phat, Nguyen Thinh Phat and Pham Van Tu.
The result offered redemption after Vietnam’s disappointing showing at the SEA Games in December, hosted by Thailand.
